Our Design & Build Process: What Actually Happens When You Design or Renovate With Us
Our Design & Build Process: From Site Visit to Handover
If you're comparing interior design firms in Klang or Setia Alam, you've probably noticed most websites describe what they design but not how the project actually runs. That gap is usually where renovation anxiety comes from not the design itself, but not knowing what happens between your first enquiry and the day you get your keys back.
Here's exactly how a project runs with Sixth Interior, structured across nine stages refined over 8 years of residential Design & Build work on Semi-D and Bungalow homes across Klang and Setia Alam.
Step 1: Discovery & Site Assessment
Every project begins with a complimentary on-site consultation not a sales pitch, but a walkthrough and a conversation. Our designers take preliminary measurements and take time to understand how your household actually uses each space: who cooks, who works from home, where clutter accumulates, and what isn't working in your current layout.
By the end of this stage, you receive a written brief confirming your budget range, priorities, and constraints, agreed with you before any design work begins. This ensures the concept presented in Step 2 is built around your actual requirements, not an assumption of them.
Step 2: Concept Design & 2D Space Planning
Once the brief is confirmed, our team returns for a detailed site measurement to ensure full accuracy before design work commences. We then begin proposing a 2D furniture layout, translating your brief into a plan you can see and evaluate.
This stage includes a mood board and space-planning concept, with feng shui considerations incorporated or excluded according to your preference.
Step 3: 3D Visualization & Material Selection
Your brief now becomes something you can see in three dimensions. We present accurate, realistic 3D visualizations that include proposed loose furniture, light fittings, curtains, and decor giving you a complete sense of the finished space before committing.
This stage also covers material selection, and our team presents an estimated quotation based on the finalized 3D visualizations.
Step 4: Design Development
At this stage, our designers incorporate your feedback and preferences including your choice of appliances and lifestyle requirements refining the visualizations for finalization. Detailing discussions, such as finishes and construction specifications, are addressed here before we proceed to technical drawings.
Step 5: Working Drawings
Our design team prepares construction drawings and detailed technical drawings required to commence renovation works, translating the finalized design into buildable specifications for our site team and contractors.
Step 6: Final Quotation & Scheduling
With the design finalized, you confirm the specific renovation drawings to proceed with works. At this stage, we finalize the project timeline and job scope together, and arrange the necessary documentation and submissions to management or the relevant authorities to formally kick-start renovation.
Step 7: Renovation & Site Supervision
Construction begins, with our designer conducting regular site visits to monitor contractors and ensure the work aligns with the approved drawings and specifications — keeping quality and progress on track throughout the renovation.
Step 8: Finalizing Loose Items
As construction nears completion, our team assists you in selecting and sourcing loose furniture and decorative items, ensuring the final styling matches the approved 3D visualization.
Step 9: Handover & Photography
We conduct a final site inspection together with you, hand over warranty cards, remote controls, and other necessary items, and prepare the completed space for professional photography.
FAQ ( Frequently Asked Questions )
How long does the design process take before renovation starts? Design stages (Steps 1–6) typically take several weeks to moonths depending on project scope and how quickly decisions on materials and layout are confirmed. We provide a specific timeline once your brief is locked in Step 1.
Do you provide 3D visualizations before I commit to a quotation? No. Once confirmation only we provide realistic 3D visualizations including furniture, lighting, and decor in Step 3, and our estimated quotation is based on this finalized visual, so you know what you're paying for before construction begins.
Is feng shui consultation included? Feng shui considerations can be incorporated into your space planning in Step 2 if you'd like them included, or excluded entirely this is your preference.
Who checks the renovation while it's ongoing? Our Site Supervisor and designers conducts regular site visits throughout construction to monitor contractors and ensure work matches the approved drawings and specifications.
Do you help source furniture and decor, or just the renovation works? We assist with both. Once construction is nearing completion, our team helps you finalize and source loose furniture and decorative items to match the original 3D visualization.
What happens on handover day? We conduct a joint site inspection, hand over all warranty documentation, remote controls, and necessary items, and prepare the space for professional photography.
